Banboche Virtual Program + Information

We have made the difficult decision to switch to a virtual format for the 5th Annual Banboche on January 22, 2022. In keeping with our commitment to healing and keeping our community safe through these challenging times, combined with the current rise in COVID-19 cases in Greater Boston and the advice of our health advisors, we believe it is in the best interest of public health to host Banboche virtually this year. Join us on Zoom at 7:00 pm EST for the show followed by a virtual dance party! Zoom room opens at 6:45pm EST.

We will honor all tickets on January 22, 2022 for this Zoom event. If you have already purchased your tickets, we will be reaching out over email with the Zoom access information. If you have not already purchased your ticket, register below! If you want to get in the Banboche vibe, you can download and use our virtual background.

JAE will also be hosting the Banboche Marketplace on Instagram Live for the first time ever on Jan 20 and 21. Watch for free at our IG account @jaebostonhaiti. We will also be posting information about all vendors on our website - stay tuned!

JAE’s fifth annual Banboche celebration will be held on Saturday, January 22nd online, with the company performing live from the festive Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA. Join Jean, the dance company, and our community to celebrate a year full of rich community programming as you immerse yourself in Haitian culture. The evening will include dance performances, highlights from our year, and dancing for all.

This year's theme is Kiltirèl Conexiones and the company performance will bring together Jean Appolon’s Haitian folkloric roots with Gerardina Halloran’s Dominican heritage. Kiltirèl Conexiones, or Cultural Connections in Haitian Creole and Spanish, is Jean Appolon Expressions’ (JAE) latest effort to highlight and celebrate the similarities between Haitian and Dominican people, cultures, and historic experiences.

CLOTHING DRIVE FOR NEW HAITIAN IMMIGRANTS: As part of Banboche, we will be collecting supplies to be distributed to new Haitian immigrants. You can donate clothes in good condition, baby diapers, hygiene products and kitchen utensils . The JAE directors will bring the donations to the Immigrant Family Services Institute (IFSI-USA) in Mattapan. Sign up to donate clothing with JAE here.

Banboche 2021 is supported in part by a Livearts Boston grant from The Boston Foundation.
