FINDING HOME: IMMIGRANT STORIES & MUSIC FROM BOSTON AND BEYOND
JAE is collaborating with Hoopla Productions on a collaborative arts event at the Jamaica Pond on Saturday September 18th at 6pm. Details below!
It’s sunset at Jamaica Pond… The sky is tinged with purple and orange, and music wafts through the air. At first it’s faint, mysteriously coming from somewhere in the distance. As we hear the music approaching, we notice two silhouettes from afar – one of them a child – and they are dancing…
You have entered the world of Finding Home: Immigrant Stories and Music from Boston and Beyond, a powerful celebration of the strength, tenacity, and creativity of local immigrants. Through music, dance and storytelling, Finding Home elevates the voices of immigrants representing a range of experiences, countries and cultures.
Featured artists include musician Stan Strickland; dancers Jean Appolon, his 7-year-old son Cedric Laine, and Mcebisi Xotyeni from Jean Appolon Expressions; Boston’s Youth Poet Laureate Alondra Bobadilla; Indigenous storyteller and musician Annawon Weeden; Actor and director Vincent Siders; MC Yhinny Matos, and a fantastic group of spoken word artists, poets and storytellers of diverse ages and backgrounds.
Please join us at Finding Home on September 18th from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Jamaica Pond boathouse in Jamaica Plain! (Rain date, September 19th)
