Where: 499-503 Park Drive, Boston ***More info about this location below!
Event Description:
The land around Audubon Circle, Cottage Farm and Muddy River was once a lush, fertile estuary where the land met the river and sea – the type of land often considered sacred ground. In the 1600s, the land was taken by colonists cutting down the ancient cedar swamp, held cannon batteries for war in the 1700s, and now hosts a deeply urbanized system of highways, railroads, asphalt and concrete.
Yet the robins still sing, the trees flourish and the flowers bloom. Jean Appolon Expressions and drummers will lead us in dance as we honor the past, offer our love through our dancing feet and thank the land for continuing to give us life – showing us how we too can be beautiful and bloom even under adverse circumstances.
Jean Appolon Expressions’ (JAE’s) Haitian Folkloric Dance welcomes people of all movement backgrounds and experience levels. This accessible dance blends Haitian folkloric and Afro-contemporary dance, centered around rhythms like Yanvalou, Ibo, Mayi, Petro and Congo, cultivating self-empowerment, healing and having fun in community.
No prior experience needed! Please come and make magic together!
