July 2-Day Intensive: Afro Contemporary with Bisi (Int/Advanced)
Instructor: Mecbisi Xotyeni
Dates: Friday 7/10 & Saturday 7/11
Time: 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Course Description: Embrace the power, rhythm, and fluidity of movement in this dynamic 2 class intensive designed to bridge tradition and modern expression. This class offers a deep dive into Afro-Contemporary fusion, seamlessly blending African-grounded movements with contemporary dance forms and various modern techniques.
Over the course of these two classes, dancers will explore the conversation between the earthiness of traditional practices and the expansive release of modern style, focusing on rhythm, spatial awareness, and deeply expressive storytelling through movement.
Full-Body Warm-Up: Each session begins with a rigorous warm-up focusing on deep isolations, core engagement, and compound movements to ground the body and build stamina.
Across-the-Floor Progression: We will move through space exploring the sheer explosiveness, weight shifts, and polyrhythms of fused techniques, challenging your agility and dynamic range.
Choreography & Artistry: The final portion of each class will be dedicated to weaving these explosive and grounded techniques into a fluid, challenging choreographic phrase.
