Kiltirèl Conexiones

Celebrating connections between Haitian and Dominican people, culture, and traditions

In JAE’s performance Kiltirèl Conexiones, or Cultural Connections in Haitian Kreyòl and Spanish, JAE highlights and celebrates the similarities between Haitian and Dominican people, cultures, and historic experiences. With both cultures and traditions deeply rooted in African folkloric traditions, along with the experiences and influences of colonization by white Europeans, Haitians and Dominicans share more than a physical island. Haitian and Dominican relations have been fraught for many years, despite their close roots. With Kiltirèl Conexiones, we seek to educate audiences about the cultures, history, and traditions, as well as bring Haitian and Dominican people together, ensuring that harmony is at the forefront of the conversation.

Gigi and Jean!

Kiltirèl Conexiones brings together Jean Appolon’s Haitian folkloric roots with Gerardina “Gigi” Halloran’s Dominican heritage. Appolon and Halloran are a dynamic pair who approach dance as a tool for education and action.

Appolon and Halloran seek to bring a positive message of connection through movement and education to audiences with a thoughtful combination of Haitian folkloric dance and traditional Dominican dance.

Kiltirèl Conexiones was produced with support from The Boston Foundation.
